Position Summary:
The DFSS Technical Leader (DTL), the industry equivalent of a Design For Six Sigma Master Black Belt, will support Boston Scientific's DFSS implementation from both a technical and business perspective. Reporting into the Six Sigma Site Implementation Leader (SIL), the DTL will support the implementation of Design for Six Sigma within the Endosurgery Technology & Product Development Organizations. The DTL will also support the corporate-wide implementation as a member of the DFSS Build Team.

This individual will initially work under the tutelage of expert DFSS consultants on pilot projects to gain expertise in delivering the DFSS curriculum and to become certified as a BSC DFSS trainer. Once certified, the DTL will be responsible for delivering DFSS curriculum to project teams and refining the DFSS curriculum with site specific examples. The DTL will also participate in building the organizational infrastructure to support the usage of DFSS, including developing and mentoring DFSS tool experts and working with Technology Development Process (TDP) & Product Development Process (PDP) facilitators to assist project teams in optimizing TDP & PDP deliverables.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Piloting, Delivering and Refining DFSS Curriculum by working under the tutelage of expert DFSS consultants on Pilot Projects (Approx. 50% of time).
- Piloting includes participating on multiple Technology & Product Development Project teams to pilot the application of DFSS methods and tools within BSC and internalize the skills & competencies of the outside experts.
- Delivering (once BSC certified) includes Just-In-Time (JIT) training & facilitation on the application of DFSS methodology & tools to TDP & PDP projects. (May also participate in delivering management training courses)
- Refining includes developing site-specific case studies and providing feedback on changes needed to the corporate materials.

2) Participate in building and maintaining the organizational infrastructure to support usage of the DFSS methodology and tools by TDP & PDP project teams. (Approx. 30% of time). Develop and mentor identified DFSS tool experts. Coach TDP/PDP facilitators on supporting project teams in their application of DFSS methodology and tools. Create a cross-functional mentoring network to share best practices and project examples across the Endosurgery Technology & Product Development Organization.

3) Assist the DFSS Build Team Leaders with the creation and implementation of DFSS strategies. Act as a strong advocate for DFSS. Assist with sharing and deploying best practices within the business and across other BSC businesses. (Approx. 10% of time).

4) Participate in developing a corporate DFSS certification process and utilize in certifying candidates. Work with other DTLs across organization (through Corporate DFSS Build Team) to ensure consistency of the certification process. (Approx. 5% of time).

5) Assist with appropriate project selection/scoping for Functional Tool Experts and/or project teams. Assess areas for high-level/complex project opportunities and split those into appropriate DFSS projects.
(Approx. 5% of time).

(Note: The above approximate percentages are for the pilot phase of DFSS Deployment. The percentages will change as the DFSS program moves into ramp up and implementation, but the responsibilities will remain largely the same.)


Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years experience in Technology &/or Product Development
BS/MS in chemical/mechanical engineering, material science, or related discipline
Six Sigma Black Belt certified
Proven ability to deliver Black Belt training
Proven ability to lead, coach and mentor a technical audience
Strong project leadership skills (Proven Track Record of multiple DFSS projects)
Excellent team facilitation & motivational/interpersonal skills
Ability to assess potential projects for technical difficulty and business impact and determine scope for each project
Strong working knowledge of Minitab version 13 or higher
Demonstrated competency in Decision Making techniques
Command of several Problem Solving techniques
At least one of the following:
Experience in conducting VOC/CPM/QFD
Experience in DOE/Taguchi Robust Design,
Tolerancing, Process Capability
